Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP, a national leader in municipal finance and public law, announced that it has opened an office in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The new office is the firm’s first office in the Southeast region. A new partner, Jeffrey A. Poley, has joined the firm and will be resident in the Raleigh office.

John Renken, a member of the firm’s management committee, commented on the lateral hire and the new office: “The opportunity to welcome a new partner and open an office in North Carolina is very exciting.  Hawkins has a highly collaborative, problem-solving, and client-focused firm culture – and Jeff is a great fit.  This is another example of our firm’s continued commitment to public finance and public projects.”

Mr. Poley received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law (Chapel Hill) and his B.A. from Duke University.  His practice is focused primarily on financings for hospitals, higher education institutions, and continuing care retirement communities.

Hawkins is one of the municipal industry’s more storied law firms.  Founded in 1854, the firm gained a reputation in the 19th Century for specialized expertise in the area of governmental finance.  The firm continues to break new ground for its clients in finance transactions, including public power, transportation, housing, health care, higher education, cultural institutions and public contract representation, including public/private partnerships.  Hawkins is perennially rated among the very top bond counsel and underwriters’ counsel nationally.

The firm’s other offices are located in New York, New Jersey (Newark), California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento), Connecticut (Hartford), Michigan (Ann Arbor), Oregon (Portland), and Washington, D.C. The new Raleigh office is the firm’s tenth office.
